Abstract: 2021 edition of the JSCA performance-based seismic design manual proposes a simple method for determiningseismic performance grades for low-rise buildings. The scope of application of this method will be shown, and the newconcept of performance-preserving horizontal strength for determining seismic grade will be explained.
