Numerical simulation analyses of reinforced concrete (RC) beam with carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) bars and common RC beam were carried out. Comparative analyses of numerical simulation results and experimental results were carried out, and the numerical simulation method can obtain a relatively good result. Subsequently, the influence of increasing the diameter of CFRP bars and improving the connectivity between the CFRP bars and concrete on basic mechanical properties of beams was discussed. The results show that increasing the diameter of CFRP bars can enhance the bearing capability of RC beam, however, it results in ductility loss respectively. Improving the connectivity between the CFRP bars and concrete leads a significant improvement of mechanical behavior of RC beam. Especially, improving the connectivity between the CFRP bars and concrete near midspan of beam contributes to improving the mechanical properties of RC beam significantly. Keywords: reinforced concrete beam; carbon fiber reinforced polymer bar; constitutive relation; numerical simulation; mechanical behavior
